The Little Things

First off, let me say I have a major infatuation with this collection of works by Clare Elsaesser on Etsy.  What could be better than a dreamy flowery hug? Swoon.  This one might need to come adorn my office.

Have you ever noticed that vacations are perfect celebrations?  We reward ourselves with all sorts of treats – whether that be sleeping in, an afternoon at the art galleries, an extra dessert – and no guilty feelings at all! I am learning that my life would be a whole lot better if I adopted a little of that “you’re worth it” mantra into my daily life – not just when I’m on “vacation.”

Are you good at celebrating your accomplishments? I am all too skilled at reminding myself what I’ve done poorly, but rarely do I reward myself for things I’ve done well.  I’ve decided that needs to change and my life needs a little more vacation-attitude.

I’ve done some huge things so far this year – including but not limited to launching this new blog design & starting a new business! – and these things (heck, even the little things like actually making it to the gym more than once a month) definitely deserve for me to notice and celebrate them.

Here are some of my favorite ways to celebrate the little things:

1. Buy myself some flowers, because I’m awesome.

2. Pour myself a celebratory libation. Lately, I’ve been on a mimosa kick – because what is more celebratory than a little bubbly?

3. Stop working for just a second there, lady, and breathe for a minute.  You’ve earned it.

4. Dance parties are always highly recommended – even if it’s just for actually getting the laundry folded.

What about you? Are you good at celebrating? If so, teach me your ways – what are some of your favorite ways to celebrate?

I love that painting, too! Checking out her site ASAP.

Also, I get stuck in a rut celebration-wise and think they always need to be centered on food. Not so! Thanks for these ideas 🙂ReplyCancel

So true, Christy! I tend to always want to reward myself with cookies, so I feel ya there! Part of the reason I wanted to brainstorm a little today 🙂ReplyCancel

Great celebration ideas! I’m especially a big fan of having a dance party. I think you can make anything better by dancing around a little bit. 🙂ReplyCancel

Swooning over that painting! I have a hard time with this too but I am just trying to let myself enjoy those moments. I just started purchasing plants because I love them and they always put a smile on my face!ReplyCancel

Christie – this is a huge challenge for me too. Love the plants idea! And that you’re doing something for yourself that makes you happy! 🙂ReplyCancel

Being a mom isn’t so easy when it comes to rewarding yourself. I keep the home and blog train going on overdrive and often times I forget to carve out some “me” time or rewards for myself. It’s such a bad habit..and my excuse, “there’s not enough time.” But I really need to make the time. That’s not to say that I haven’t celebrated tho =) When all the kiddos & hubbs are asleep, I love love love to enjoy my morning coffee w/ a lil sketch or paint session, or some wine during the evenings. I’m also known to devour chocolate pastries of any kind in one sitting =)ReplyCancel

Louise – I can’t even imagine having kids in the mix! I make that “not enough time” excuse pretty often as well. It’s great that you find small things to enjoy even if you have to get up early 🙂 it’s definitely worth making the time for.ReplyCancel
