I’ve driven by this little museum in Woodland Park too many times to count. To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations for it, but have always wanted to stick my head in out of curiosity. Mostly because Woodland Park seems a strange place for a Dinosaur Resource Center.
This was one of my favorite summer afternoons to date, and it didn’t go at all like we planned. In fact, we didn’t even make it inside the museum.

Before heading into the museum, we stopped for lunch and a few beers. There’s a brewery across the street from the resource center, and since we’re slowly working our way through the Beer Drinker’s Guide to Colorado, we thought we’d check Bierwerks off our list. I think some of the best things happen when you are willing to change your plans. We ended up spending the whole afternoon at Bierwerks, wrapped up in great conversations – which I think is one of the better things in life anyway.
So, I can’t tell you anything about the Dinosaur Resource Museum after all. But what I can tell you is that sometimes it’s better to ditch the agenda and let life happen because that’s when the best adventures are made. That’s the best part of traveling, really, is the unplanned surprises – the going with the flow (which is so much easier when you’re “on vacation,” am I right?). Sometimes plans were made to be unmade, by better plans and good beer.
