blog moodboard copy

So, in last week’s post on uncertainty, I hinted at some big decisions that I’m making (actually, I’ve been dropping LOTS of hints lately – so thanks for being patient and putting up with my secrecy!) and after writing my Fear Confession this past week, I decided that it was time to make some decisions and move forward – THIS WEEK.

So, you’re wondering at the big announcement?  I’m launching my very own business.  And I’ve picked a name, at last!

Evergreen Lane Productions is the name of my new endeavor, and I’ll be working with creative adventurers and entrepreneurs to make beautifully curated videography.   The domain name has been purchased, a logo and website are in the works, I bought my first business camera & equipment yesterday and this morning I registered my trade name here in Colorado!  That’s a lot of decisions, and I’m pretty proud of myself.  The above is a mood board I made to inspire the work I’ll be doing while building my business website and thinking about branding over the coming weeks.  If you could mood-board my heart, this would be pretty darn close.

By no means is this platform going to become a video business blog (although it’s my plan that there will be more video content working its way in), so I’ll still be talking about traveling, living creatively, Colorado and all the other great stuff you’re used to seeing around here.

Thanks so much for all the support that you, my awesome readers, have shown me – and given me the courage to follow something that I’m passionately excited about!

Congratulations! I read your fear confession this week and it resonated with me. I feel the same way about so much of what you said. I am so happy for you taking that step!ReplyCancel

I only lived in two houses through my childhood, and one was on a street called Evergreen.  I’ve been thinking a lot about that house lately.

These are older photos, but it’s pretty much still the same in my head.  This is where I first picked up a camera, and many of my early photography projects were taken in this backyard.  It hosted loads of childhood imaginations and daydreams.  Visits still make me feel like a little kid again.

It was where my friends and I made our first movies, hiding out in the woods with our costumes and cameras, and started me on a path towards studying film and working in television.  Funny how life meanders.

This has been one of those weeks where everything seems tremendously overwhelming, but it’s nice to have those places in your mind that you can go back to and remember that life can be full of a lot more adventure and a lot less stress.

What was your favorite thing about the street where you grew up?

Psst! Today I’m over on Krystle’s awesome blog, Paper Fort Studio, sharing a Fear Confession.  My first guest post, check it out!

I’ve had a major epiphany this week: there will always be uncertainty.  You can’t eliminate it – in fact, as you start to dream bigger, uncertainty seems to increase exponentially.  That may seem like a horrible epiphany (because, really, who loves uncertainty) but I’ve drawn quite the opposite sentiment from it.  Uncertainty will exist if I stay in my house and never do anything at all, and uncertainty will exist if I shoot for the stars.  So I might as well just shoot for the stars, for there will always be uncertainty.

I’ve also, hand in hand, discovered that more planning doesn’t necessarily mean that uncertainty will go away, just that perhaps you’re more prepared for it.  So there comes a point, and I’ve just about reached it, where it makes more sense to put the researching and waffling aside.  It is time to make decisions, and move forward, for there will always be uncertainty.

When you’re sitting still, it almost seems that uncertainty has a way of feeling mightier and scarier.  Movement, however, brings the discovery that you can indeed survive uncertainty – even flourish in the midst of it – and that robs uncertainty of much of its power.  So I still have major butterflies over everything (and there’s a big announcement coming tomorrow – speaking of decisions!) but I’m also tremendously happy to be making forward motion.  Wading through uncertainty, after all, is far better than wallowing in it.

Might as well be happy, for there will always be uncertainty.

This is JUST what I need. Thank you for making things MUCH MUCH clearer for me and this move I’m about to make.

P.S. I just tweeted the part “Uncertainty will exist if I stay in my house and never do anything at all, and uncertainty will exist if I shoot for the stars. So I might as well just shoot for the stars” but wouldn’t fit. I altered it a bit but it’s still all you. *cheers*ReplyCancel

So glad you got something out of it – it’s definitely something I’m still learning myself, but has helped me TONS in the past week. And thanks for the shout out!ReplyCancel

Oh the uncertainties of life. The beginning of my week was way crazy with a lot of drama – and I feel the same – do I stay in, shut myself out from the world or just keep going forward.ReplyCancel

Pretty much sums it up for me.  Gotta love F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I was gifted a Wacom tablet for Christmas and I’ve finally been able to spend some quality time playing with it!  So far I am really enjoying it, but it’s much harder than you’d think to get some decent looking handwriting.  I am trying to learn how to simply create for creating – shutting up the inner perfectionist for a bit.  Majorly difficult, but it feels good!

  • charFebruary 6, 2013 - 5:08 pm

I got one too, and have found it fun, but difficult like you say. I guess practice will make us both better. I love your whimsical handwriting for that quote! Nice.ReplyCancel

Thank you Char! I think I’ll probably do more of these handwritten quotables to get me to practice more 🙂ReplyCancel

Good idea! They’re great for blog posts.

This past weekend, Cory’s sister was in town.  We were blessed with some great weather (50s and sunny? yes, please!) so we headed out for a hike.

redrockscollage1

Red Rock Open Space is one of my favorite places to hike near Colorado Springs, because there are so many trails that you could wander around in there for hours and not cover the same ground – or take a slightly different route every time.  It’s not easy to get lost either, because generally uphill means South and downhill means North (and back to the parking lots).  That set-up is great for trail running too.

redrockshike

It’s funny how we have these awesome places sitting right in our backyard, and yet sometimes it takes a visit from an out-of-town guest to get us to enjoy them.  We can grow accustomed or numb to the great things about where we live, just because they’re always there!  It’ll be there tomorrow, right?

I thought it would be fun to add a little “top tip” feature to my Everyday Adventure posts.  I know not all of you readers (in fact, probably not many of you) actually live in Colorado and could head out running in Red Rocks, but the top tip is a way that you can take the spirit of an Everyday Adventurer and apply it to all the awesomeness that IS right around the corner from where you live.  So, today’s tip?

ea_toptip1

Don’t let the “it’ll always be there” attitude keep you from getting out an exploring!  Take some new eyes (maybe bring a friend who’s never gone with you before, or maybe just choose to see things with a different perspective) and enjoy some of your old favorites all over again!

So what do you think of the Top Tip?  Should I include this feature more often?  Let me know in the comments!
