While we were in Arizona, Cory’s family and I made the long drive to almost-Mexico to visit the fabled town of Tombstone.  I’m not usually one for tourist traps, and honestly I wasn’t quite prepared for how big of a tourist trap this actually WAS – but I suppose with the movie and it being one of the most infamous spots in the Wild West, I should have known.

We didn’t have long to explore so we didn’t see any of the shows, but we stuck our heads in a few of the museums (at least, the free lobbies – they charge for everything) and Cory and I grabbed a beer at the saloon, because obviously, that’s what you do in Tombstone – gamble, shoot and drink.  Or prostitutes, but I’d just rather not.  We decided to do the drinking and leave the rest up to someone else.

All the colorful typography was a highlight for me – so I preferred to spend most of my time wandering up and down reading all the signage.  Yup, probably looks nothing like it did “back in the old days” and the people yelling about gun shows and all that didn’t really help.  But it always helps to look at the bright side.  So, carnival typography it is!

We finished up with a stop at Boothill graveyard, where several of the gangsters killed at O.K. Corral are buried, and a bunch of other people who were shot, stabbed, or otherwise died unnaturally in the late 1800s.  Seems like everyone did those days.

Thankful that I live in the West of the present and not ye old Wild West!

P.S. If you haven’t seen the movie, Tombstone, I’d highly recommend it.  Much more than a visit to the actual location, in fact.

week29

This week has been coooooold.  Hard to be thankful for that, but I am thankful that we’re settling back into the post-holiday routine and life is slowing down a bit.

1. This guy is back to being himself (he’s usually extra nice when we first get home from a trip, but once he’s convinced we’re not leaving again his usual antics return).

2. These mountains, well, they never stopped being gorgeous.

3 & 4.  The only way outfit photos happen these days – also, those wedges are from Target and they are awesome, in case you were wondering.

5. Added some mood lighting in the bathroom so that we can escape the jet-turbine of a bathroom fan.

6. January is the month of soups at our house, not that I mind in the slightest.  Mirepoix is one of my favorite smells on earth!

Looking forward to Chicago for some family time and THIS.  Majorly excited.  Wishing you some warmth this week!

Pretty much anytime we’re visiting Cory’s family in Phoenix, we make our way to this park.  This past trip over Christmas was no different, and we headed over there for some Mediterranean food and a walk in the nicest golden hour light.  Aside from the fact that it got incredibly cold when we were at the farthest point on the lake (amazing how fast that happens once the sun goes down), it is a beautiful walk.

If I lived near here, I bet I would make many of my runs around this loop.  The fountain goes off every hour for about ten-fifteen minutes, so we picked the perfect time for our walk, since it coincided with both the fountain’s and the sun’s timing.  Swoon.

It was really fun to watch the fountain water change colors as the sun got lower in the sky, a bit of a different take on the Arizona sunset, but then, of course, I got distracted :

Can you blame me?  Love me that sky something fierce!

Definitely something I want to do more of this year – a little walking and talking with a pretty backdrop does wonders for your soul, especially when you have the best company.

Do you have a favorite place for walks/talks?

If you’ve been around here for a few minutes, you know this blog is all about the adventure.  Making every moment a little bit more pretty and living life as fully and as beautifully as possible.  For me, travel is what it’s all about – finding new places, tasting new foods, hiking a new mountain trail.  This most recent adventure of mine to Arizona, which included a bit of an unplanned blog break, had me thinking a lot about this blog and where I want it to go.  I have some BIG ideas, folks, and I really am so glad you are along for the ride.

Travel, it’s good for you.

It’s about connection, and inspiration, and education.  So my plan is to write a bit more on the HOW and the WHY of travel, not just the WHAT.  And also – because I think one of the main purposes of a little adventure and change of scenery is all the inspiration that it can bring (and I know this is definitely true in my experience – it’s why I’m totally addicted) so I’m going to challenge myself to share with you more of the creative outcomes of those inspired adventures.  That means more videos, more music, more original artwork.  I’m tremendously exited about it all, and also pretty nervous.  Because really, what good is someone who talks a lot about creating but never really CREATES anything, right?  But I know sharing it with you here will help me to be more accountable with my dreams.

So a lot of things will stay the same around here – Moments of Pretty and Everyday Adventures and Beautiful Worlds will all still be right here where you’ve known them to be.  But in 2013, this blog is going to the next level and I really hope that you’ll enjoy the new direction!  Some fabulous projects are in the works and I’ll be sharing as soon as I can!

Anyone else have some big (scary) dreams for this year?  How about any adventures?  Share in the comments, I’d love to hear about them!

A big, scary, and unrealistic dream for the year is to be able to travel for a few months of this year, to some cool places in Asia. I’d also love to get published!ReplyCancel

week28

The holidays have flown by yet again!  Still trying to get back into the swing of things, and wind down from the go-go-go that December always seems to bring with it.

1. We flew to Phoenix for Christmas and I saw the most lovely sunset from a plane that I may have ever seen.  It made me crave orange sherbert like no one’s business.

2. A Christmas with palm trees is a weird Christmas indeed.  Wish it was warmer though, that is why people come to Arizona in the winter, right?

3. We ate In-N-Out.

4. Twice.  We only get it a few times a year, alright? Second time was in my NYE sequins, naturally.

5. What would a trip to Arizona be without a ton of sunset photos?

6. The cutest Christmas present ever, for Cory’s dad – also featured here this week in all her adorableness.

7. A drive up to Show Low and past this quirky old house, one of Cory’s childhood landmarks.

8. Ok, yes, one more photo of a sunset.  Bear with me and blame Arizona.  You just can’t help it.

Hope you are off to a great start this year! Happy first weekend of 2013!
