Praying for rain – so this is what I’m daydreaming about today – perhaps a lovely book like this one :

A day (or day after day after day) like this one :

And a cheery I’ve-got-no-worries outfit :

Perhaps it’s time for a vacation in Seattle.

If you share the rain, we’ll send your heat back!! 🙂ReplyCancel

You can take the rain AND keep the heat…

      • Annabelle MintzJune 27, 2012 - 12:29 pm

haha Colorado doesn’t know what to do with heat, clearly – you can tell by the temper tantrums it’s been having. I was all excited for this to be the “hottest summer on record” but now I’m not so sure it was a good idea!

I have a great one for this week’s soundtrack – it’s called Sun & Moon by Cloud Carrier.  Emily is a good friend of mine and always inspiring me with her music (check out more of her stuff on her youtube channel).  And the new direction she’s going with Dillon and Cloud Carrier is super fun.

A lot of times I feel like music is so complicated – when actually it’s the strikingly simple stuff that often leaves us with the greatest impression. SO lovely, guys, can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!

Well, you’ve already heard about the fire.  I thought I’d look back in the archives and edit a few photos from my last hike to Waldo Canyon – since it might look pretty different the next time I’m there.  Funny, husband and I were just talking about needing to make another trip.

The trail head is on the north side of highway 24, a couple turns past Manitou Springs if you’re driving from Colorado Springs.  There’s a series of stairs that leads up over the ridge and down into the canyon.

The trail takes you over the ridge and down into Waldo Canyon – it makes a large loop which I’ve never actually been all the way around for one reason or another.  Kind of wishing I had made it now.  When the fire is out and all is safe, it will be really interesting to hike up there and see how the landscape has changed.

On your way back to the parking lot you can see Pike’s Peak peering over the ridge line across Highway 24.  It’s a little surreal now to watch plumes of smoke and haze pour out now.  Not much else left to say except that I hope this passes quickly.  If you’re interested in offering assistance towards Colorado’s firefighting efforts (there are currently seven nine active fires in the state) check the links below:

With the first two photos, I feel almost weird calling this post moments of pretty like all the others – wildfires are definitely a dangerous and tragic kind of beautiful.

I don’t know what the news is filled with in other parts of the world – but in Colorado, it’s basically all fire coverage.  This is the first one we’ve been able to see from where we live.  My husband and I actually left our apartment last night, as they were evacuating everything to the west of our street (we live on the east side of said street – but really, what’s 15 feet?).  Doesn’t look like the fire’s headed our direction, so we might be back there tonight.

1. Yesterday afternoon – the smoke from Waldo Canyon fire covered up the sun.  It was eerie to watch the thing grow.

2. Pike’s Peak from our apartment complex yesterday, early in the fire’s life.  Now you can’t even see the mountain, it’s just all hazy smoke.

3. & 4. On a (much) happier note, husband & I got out for some nostalgia earlier this week – Vienna Beef hotdogs are THE taste of home for me.  Yes, above Chicago-style pizza, although that’s a close second.

5. A little walk from our house, pre-fire, obviously.  Evening walks have to be one of my favorite things.

6. Peak theater, downtown Colorado Springs – have always loved all the crazy colors.

7. Attempting to get some work done this afternoon at my second home.

8. The sunshine through the trees.  It’s a beautiful thing.  Though, rain would be good right about now!

Yup. Rain would be good.

Do you daydream?  I am a bit notorious for it – as a child I would sit in a chair (or a tree if the opportunity presented itself) and wander off to worlds far far away.

Today, I’m pretending my workspace looks like this:

That perhaps I’m sitting out here in the sun:

And maybe wearing something like this:

Yes, that sounds quite lovely.

Daydreaming is a powerful tool Annabelle – I use it to escape those rut-like places in my mind, remember how beautiful the world is, and re-realise that everyday has new possibilities, more potential and lots of other lovely things.

Thanks for sharing, as always, this is a delightful little post.ReplyCancel

Somewhere along the way, I believe I’ve stopped daydreaming. A sad realization, but a gentle invitation. Thanks for the post, AnnabelleReplyCancel

I noticed that too as I started to “grow up” – one of those things from childhood that I’d like to hold on to 🙂 It’s surprisingly not easy!ReplyCancel
