One of our recent trips to attempt a 14er summit got rained out – but the cloud definitely had a silver lining, because we ended up exploring the town of Ouray (pronounced yoo-ray). The city’s tagline is “Switzerland of America” and I kind of fell in love. I mean, LOOK at this place.
We went on a gorgeous hike (photos of that to come) and then enjoyed brews and views on the rooftop deck of the Ouray Brewery. Honestly, I had never heard of Ouray until we drove through it – a lot of gems in Colorado get out-shined by the big ones like Telluride and Aspen. And old mining towns turned tourist destinations are a dime a dozen around here. But I am glad to have discovered Ouray, and I’m already scheming a return. I could sit and look and that pretty little town surrounded by mountains all day. Plus, we still have to conquer Mt. Sneffels.
P.S. Is that not the funniest mountain name? Mt. Sneffels!
