I just got back from a speedy trip over the weekend to surprise my sister for her graduation, she now has her Master’s degree!  While I am SO proud (she starts her PhD program in a few weeks!) and SO thankful I got to make the trip out there, today I am le tired.  To say the least.  So allow me to catch up with a few pretty moments, and regular programming will resume tomorrow!

1. We recently had an artist night at my church, which was one of the most fun things I’ve done in a while – we just got to play music and watch people paint! I have some creative friends.

2. Rocking my Ban.do pin from the Eat Drink Create event one of these recent summer days.

3. A little snapshot of the tasties from Erin’s recent bloggy event – salted caramel and lemon.  So so good.

4. Many reasons I love working for myself – which include but are not limited to coffee shop editing sessions.

5. Last Tuesday another fire started in Colorado Springs (it is 65% contained now, and took more homes even than last year’s fire), and it was ominous to watch it grow over our volleyball game.

6. Rain, which is what we needed a LOT of, finally trickled in over the weekend…but if someone’s passing out rainstorms, we’ll take them!

It’s events like the one I attended last week – the Dive into Summer party at Madewell, hosted by my amazing friend Erin of artsocial – that remind me that life is out there, not in here.

Let’s be honest: I’m a television editor – so I sit in front of the computer all day.  Then I come home and blog (more computer) and run my business (more computer) and feed my social media addiction (more computer).  I do a lot of screen-staring in my life, and I’ll bet I’m not the only one.  Now, please note that this is not me complaining.  I love love love what I do, and this next season is full of more exciting opportunities than ever before.  But sometimes we can get caught up in screen time and forget that our lives don’t happen on a screen.  They happen at frozen yogurt shops and on walks and at birthday parties and on the balcony with a glass of wine.  And by golly, has my internet-life brought me some really awesome real-life friends.

As someone who is almost always thinking workworkwork – it’s super important to take breaks where you can focus on lifelifelife.  Not only because it’s good for your health/sanity/relationship – as if that weren’t reason enough – but because it’s actually good for your work too!

So, even if it’s a night of shopping with your friends (bonus points if there are awesome macarons and local homemade soda to involved), get out there – because that’s where life is!

Hi Annabelle! This post is what it’s all about! Getting out there, and enjoying those fun moments with friends and connecting with people is what we all crave and need! No matter how much a person loves what makes her busybusybusy, you are so right that it makes life even sweeter to make time for enjoying the walking around, snacking on yogurt and macaroon life with awesome friends, new and old! Good energy for us all!ReplyCancel

So true BP! Seems like I’m ever in search of the balance there, but usually end up swinging around like a pendulum. Summertime always motivates/reminds me to work less/play more sometimes 🙂ReplyCancel

Life IS out there. And I am making some changes to spend much of this summer doing just that.ReplyCancel

Daydreaming about the Greek Islands today, which are in my top 5 on the “must-travel-there-asap” list.  A nice refreshing breeze from the Mediterranean, a light summer stripe and a cooling blueberry lemonade – sounds just about perfect!

I’ve written about this place before, because it’s one of our favorites.  It’s just a short drive from Colorado Springs, set on a beautiful reservoir, and surrounded by mountains.

This was our first spring visit, and we encountered some surprises (like, there are a lot of bugs around in the spring! also, there is lots of wind in the spring!) mostly because we decided last minute that we were camping & didn’t get our first choice of sites.  Memorial Day weekend is popular for camping (this one wasn’t a surprise)!

This was the weekend of sky-watching.  We saw a rainbow, some rain clouds – they didn’t dump on us, thankfully, and yes, they actually came by after the rainbow – and a stunning moonrise/star-filled sky.  Photos of that to come in another post!

One of my favorite things about camping is the food – brats, corn on the cob, s’mores! And even though I’m not usually an egg person, there’s nothing like a breakfast taco after sleeping in a tent.

Even though at heart I’m a city girl (there’s something about all that energy & potential), it’s really something special to get out of town for a while.  No cell phone, no internet, no to-do lists or chores.  This girl definitely needed a break!

That’s one of my favorite things about summer – for some reason, things seem a little less URGENT and things show up on your calendar like sand volleyball, camping weekends, and dinner with friends around bonfires.  Summer is a little reminder that URGENT does not equal IMPORTANT.
